Esta festividad surgió en 2003 en Uruguay\, cuando varias instituciones públicas y privadas se sintieron alarmadas por la cantidad de embarazos precoces que había en las escuelas. \nLa idea al celebrar este día es educar a los jóvenes del mundo sobre métodos anticonceptivos eficaces y su importancia. El mensaje no limita simplemente a evitar los embarazos no deseados.
